About

Kevin O’Connor began his building career in 1985 in Wellington, New Zealand, and went on to complete many varied projects which included the construction of his own first home.

Most of the construction he undertook was referred by architects on behalf of their clients and included restoration work to old villas, adding a second storey to existing single-level homes through to architecturally designed new house construction. A technically difficult but notable bathroom renovation to a large villa perched above Oriental Bay was featured in a copy of Trends Magazine at the time.

Commercial construction experience includes concrete formwork to high rises, foundations and interior finishing and fitouts of showrooms, offices, shops, and restaurants. Kevin ran his own construction company for many years, employing several builders and labourers and was a member of the Registered Master Builders Association.

A supply of work from some well known interior designers included commercial office and showroom fitouts such as the ECC Lighting showroom in Newtown, re-fitting of the James Cook Hotel Restaurant, refit of the Titahi Bay Tavern and the interior demolition and refit to the ground floor of the old Kodak Building in Porirua for an indoor market to name but a few.

In the early 1990’s, Kevin also trained to become a licensed ‘Insulclad’ installer and trained up his team to become proficient plasterers who went on to complete many successful plaster finished claddings to both existing and new homes. He has extensive experience in Plaster/Monolithic type cladding systems, roof maintenance issues and Council Consent & Building Permit issues.

After moving his family to Auckland in the late 1990’s, he spent some time assessing roofs for a roof refurbishment company. Kevin’s training with this company added to his already extensive knowledge of various types of roofing and their flashing systems requirements.

A couple of years was spent working for a well known nationwide building company, where meeting with prospective clients, assisting with their plan drawings, preparing and presenting these to Council for Building and/or Resource Consent gave him good experience in dealing with Council and Consent issues of all the varied methods of the different City Councils across Auckland.

Since 2002 he has been involved in the House Inspection Industry and the documenting of maintenance issues for prospective home buyers and vendors and has enjoyed working with investors, real estate agents, lawyers, and lending institutions.

Kevin is periodically engaged by the Earthquake Commission (EQC) to carry out earthquake damage assessment and estimating for repairs to earthquake-affected land and buildings, including the 2007 Gisborne earthquake. He was amongst the first called upon to attend the Canterbury Event after the first earthquake in September 2010 and assisted in the setting up and running of two field offices followed by 15 months of continuous service in Christchurch as both a Team Leader and a member of the Land Damage Assessment Team.

Kevin has a wealth of knowledge and is available should you have any queries or concerns with a property you may be considering purchasing.
